Jeff Koons record-breaking

Jeff Koons - Sales Record: $91.1 Million is the price of the Koons Steel Rabbit that has made him the world's highest priced living contemporary artist.

Jeff Koons has always been considered the artist of billionaires and celebrities, but since last May he has become a real record-breaking artist. During the latest spring auction dedicated to modern and contemporary art, organized by the New York office of Christie's, Jeff Koons' stainless-steel rabbit was sold at a price of $ 91.1 million.

The unmistakable Rabbit by Jeff Koons

It is a work inspired by an inflatable toy for children and was made in a limited edition of three pieces, only one belonging to a private collection. It was made in 1986 and embodies all those pop and minimal characteristics that made it one of the most well-known and famous works of the 20th century.

This is a record never reached before by any living artist, touched only by David Hockney's Portrait of an Artist (Pool with Two Figures), sold by the same auction house for 90 million.

The work was estimated at $50 million, although the reality far exceeded expectations for the result achieved on auction day. Belonging to the private collection of the tycoon and billionaire owner of Condé Nast, the work was purchased by gallery owner Robert Mnuchin, father of Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

Jeff Koons - Rabbit - Record

Jeff Koons has always been a very controversial artist, viewed with suspect by critics and never fully understood by the public. This look of doubt has been an integral part of his entire career, but this is a great payback for the artist. Koons has thus once again shown himself to be one of the most influential artists in the world and in the art market.
