Born in Sicily, Marco Glaviano has spent much of his life in the United States and he is now one of the most famous contemporary fashion photographers. The exhibition-event covers the extraordinary career of the photographer through iconic shots and exclusive unpublished works. With his work Glaviano has made immortal the top models who, in the '80s and '90s, embodied the image of beauty, such as Cindy Crawford, Paulina Porizkova, Claudia Schiffer and Eva Herzigova.
The exhibition includes a precious collection of official and private shots showing passions and places of the artist's life, from the world of jazz to sets in exotic locations, in an exciting journey through the memories of one of the protagonists of the 70’s New York who revolutionised the aesthetics of those years.
"The day I first went to see Marco in one of his studios, I was unable to decipher my emotions: I was aware was going to meet an icon, a part of the history of the 20th century, I am referring to the history of society, not solely art." - Deodato Salafia
For those interested in discovering the behind-the-scenes of the exhibition, Deodato Arte Gallery presents an exclusive interview available on our blog by clicking here.
Icons and the exclusive Polaroid Collection
The exhibition is divided into two sections: Icons and Polaroid Collection.
- Icons gathers Glaviano's best-known shots taken from 1984 to 2011 for the most prestigious magazines in the fashion world, such as Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.
- Polaroid Collection collects a series of unpublished and more personal shots, taken between 1970 and 2000. These photographs are captured by Glaviano with a Polaroid camera on the sets, along with the official shots published in the most important magazines of the period. The polaroid pictures (all unique hand-signed pieces) are evidence of an image that has not been modified, reflecting a need to document reality as it appears to the photographer's lens.
With "A life of photoshoots" Glaviano offers visitors a privileged window on time, allowing them to capture the truth, the essence, the most authentic behind the scenes of an ephemeral and glittering world as fashion.
