With great pleasure we announce the arrival of a new artist among the ranks of Deodato Arte. Tvboy, Italian street artist and exponent of the NeoPop movement, is now an exclusive of Deodato Arte gallery for Italy, Switzerland and Belgium.
From the faces inside television screens of his first works to the iconic "Kisses": Tvboy has been able to give life to a sharp and provocative art that has depicted the contradictions of our time with a unique and unmistakable style.
Faces inside television screens, "kisses" and Covid-proof dinners
Tvboy (pseudonym of Salvatore Benintende) was born in Palermo but he moved very young to Milan where he studied and started his artistic career. From the early years to the opening of his studio in Barcelona in 2005, his works have increasingly aroused the interest of the public and critics. His sharp and often politically engaged satire has often scandalized, even leading to the censorship and removal of some of his murals.
During his first artistic phase in Milan, he created the icon to which he owes his pseudonym: by painting faces inside television screens he depicted the influence that mass media (television, in fact) exerted and still exert on people.
Over the years his style evolved giving life to the unmistakable "kisses". Tvboy represents opposite characters, "enemies" now caught kissing. The result surprises, displaces. It snatches a smile along with a reflection. The Kiss between the Italian politicians Salvini and Di Maio made in 2018 in Rome is one of the works that most scandalized, and it was in fact removed by the authorities. But in a similar way he also depicted kisses between other famous people such as Pope Francis and Donald Trump, Ronaldo and Messi, José Mourinho and Pep Guardiola.
Even the celebrities of the moment have not escaped its ironic representations. In 2017 Influencers Kiss appeared in Milan in Corso di Porta Ticinese, another type of kiss that features Fedez (Italian rapper) and Chiara Ferragni (world-famous influencer) in a passionate kiss but without taking their hands off the smartphone. Not two “enemies” in this case, but an ironic reflection on the pervasiveness of technology and social networks.
And 2020 offered new ideas to Tvboy, who was able to tell this difficult historical moment with his iconic irony. Thus were born the kisses inspired by the famous Kiss by Hayez, but with the two lovers wearing masks and holding hand sanitizer. Or the reinterpretations of Leonardo's Last Supper in which the 12 apostles are divided into two groups of 6, in compliance with the rules imposed by the DPCM (the Prime Ministerial Decree) of the moment. And the figure of Christ in the center divides the two groups and offers masks.
