This is not the first time that a mural by Italy's most irreverent street artist Tvboy has been removed. Made on 20 September and removed immediately, Tvboy's Odi et Amo mural was censored within less than 24 hours since its creation.
Odi et Amo - The painting that caused a stir
Depicted in the painting that caused quite a stir are three Italian party leaders: Giorgia Meloni, Matteo Salvini and Silvio Berlusconi. In the mural, the first two can be seen exchanging a passionate kiss while holding knives behind their backs, all under the watchful gaze of a Silvio Berlusconi who observes the scene as if he were a voyeur of a passionate love affair.
“Ti amo poi ti odio, poi ti amo poi ti odio poi…ti amo” (I love you then I hate you, then I love you then I hate you then.... I love you), sang Mina, a great Italian singer; this is how Tvboy presents on Instagram his new work Odi et Amo performed in Via del Collegio Capranica in Rome, a street that had been the site of another famous, and censored, work of his, namely Amor Populi of 2018, in which Matteo Salvini and Luigi Di Maio were the protagonists of a passionate kiss in the same way as the famous kiss between Leonid Brezhnev and Erich Honecker by Dmtri Vrubel on the Berlin Wall.
”This time censorship instead of in the form of Ama came in the form of a poor immigrant who had to do the dirty work of removing the artwork with a bucket of water and a screwdriver” - Tvboy
At the dawn of the elections on 25 September 2022, the artist once again wanted to express his views on the important political and topical issues affecting his home country, expressing how much he cares for Italy. Indeed, it is for this reason that Tvboy in his mural wanted to draw a heart-shaped balloon in the colours of the Italian tricolour, which is, however, flying away. Fragility and delicacy this is what Tvboy's balloon and refers to the Italian political situation.
