Mr. Savethewall's artwork, Life is not so beautiful is a silkscreen print made in a limited edition of 20 in 2024 and measures 50x63 cm.
“Life is not so beautiful” represents another exploration by Mr. Savethewall of the link between iconic art and contemporary culture. In this silkscreen print, the artist reinterprets Edvard Munch's iconic work, “The Scream,” replacing the central human figure with a frog with large expressive eyes. This ironic intervention, typical of Mr. Savethewall, downplays the sense of anguish and alienation that pervades the original work.
The contrast between the emotional intensity of the burning sky, rendered with vigorous strokes of red and orange, and the figure of the frog creates a fascinating dichotomy. The frog, with its seemingly carefree expression, introduces an element of detachment and humor into a context of despair. This contrast accentuates the absurdity and complexity of the human condition, a theme that Mr. Savethewall often addresses with a touch of irony.
The work, signed by the artist and part of a limited edition of 20, underscores Mr. Savethewall's irreverent approach, which, through the filter of pop culture and animal figures, offers a provocative reinterpretationof artistic masterpieces, transforming them into modern reflections on life and its inevitable imperfection.
The exclusive works created by Mr. Savethewall will be featured inside the bookshop of the exhibition Munch. Il grido interiore (Munch. The Inner Scream) at the Palazzo Reale until January 26, 2025.
