Romero Britto was born on October 6, 1963 in Recife, Brazil. After moving to Miami, he began his career as a self-taught artist, working alongside street artists and taking inspiration from their forms and techniques. In this first phase Romero Britto painted on waste materials such as scraps of paper or cardboards.
During a journey to Paris, the artist begins to identify himself through his personal and unique style. In the French capital, Britto was introduced to the works of masters such as Henri Matisse and Pablo Picasso, allowing him to develop his own technique, which the New York Times defines as a source of “warmth, optimism and love”.
Romero Britto developed a particular love for Cubism, that he featured and reinterpreted in the motives that characterize his paintings.
From the Parisian experience he will develop his iconic and unmistakable style: his works are characterized by a research of colours and positive vibrations, which, combined together, give life to bold and imaginative.
Britto's works have been exhibited in galleries and museums in over 100 countries, including the exhibition at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux Arts at the Carrousel du Louvre in 2008 and 2010. In 2013 Romero Britto was the first living artist to exhibit at the Soumaya Museum in Mexico City.
He has created many public art installations including the sculpture for Hyde Park in London, the largest in the park's history.
Britto was the official artist for the 2010 World Cup and ambassador of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.
Britto's private life is characterized by his interest in social issues. The artist has donated time, art and resources to more than 250 charitable organizations and he is an active member of some of them.
Romero Britto's art is not only limited to artwork like paintings on canvas, sculptures and logos, but also includes the design of furniture and costumes, expanding into different fields and appearing in many magazines around the world.
His works are in the collections of the English royal family, heads of state, film, music and sports stars, all fascinated by the unique and immediately recognizable language of Romero Britto.
The artist's universe is shaped by the combination of full colours and a lack of nuances that puts everything on the same level, giving life to two-dimensional icons highlighted by strong black outlines.
In Romero Britto's artworks we find clear references to Pop Art and artists like Andy Warhol and Keith Haring, combined with the sunny and positive spirit of Brazil, his country of origin. The inspiration to Cubism of Pablo Picasso emerges in the free decomposition and reinterpretation of shapes.
The subjects are extremely varied: stylized portraits with a strong pop imprint, tenderly embraced human figures, playful images of animals and a repetition of decorative motifs.
In addition, the portraits of famous artists and celebrities such as Queen Elisabeth, Frida Kahlo and Madonna have allowed the South American artist to reach a wide audience from which he immediately received a strong appreciation.
For his works, the artist uses different media, ranging from murals and canvases, whose subjects are reproduced in series and in unique pieces, from small, medium and large metal sculptures.
Unique Romero Britto's Paintings are hand painted artworks signed in original.
These artworks on canvas are made with mixed media that involves, in addition to colour, the use of glitters making the paintings even richer and more powerful.
Among the most common subjects feature the iconic animals, as in Teddy Bear and Animal Dog, the human figures in Couples and Music and Children, as well as abstract compositions and the representation of objects with a joyful message.
Romero Britto's Prints are limited edition artworks on which the artist manually adds glitters. All the Britto Prints for sale is signed and numbered in original.
Compared to unique painting, the silkscreen prints have lower prices as they are reproduced in several units.
Among them, we find for example the series dedicated to joyful subjects such as Food and Wine, the sweet images of lovers of Beautiful Evening, tender animals and the explosive abstract compositions.
Romero Britto's Sculptures are an expression of the same colourful style that characterizes the other works of the artist, from which he takes their iconic subjects.
Made of wood and high-quality resin, each sculpture is a limited and signed edition.
Among them we have animal figures, such as the dog of Royalty, and objects, such as the heart For You and the apple for Big Apple.
Because of their seductive imagination and joyful character, Romero Britto's artworks proved to be suitable for many collaborations with brands.
